DC High Voltage Module

DeFa DC High Voltage Module delivers stable 5–9 kV DC output from 5V or 12V input in a compact 51 × 32 × 19 mm design. With 3W power consumption, current limiting, short-circuit protection, and customizable wiring, it supports OEM air purifiers, ionizers, plasma devices, and low-power air treatment equipment.

The DeFa DC high voltage module is a compact power supply designed to generate a stable high voltage output for electrostatic precipitation, negative ion generation, and low-power plasma applications. The module is also referred to as an ESP module, negative ion module, or high voltage generator depending on the target use. It is supplied by Shengyuan Technology under the DeFa brand.

With a footprint of 51 × 32 × 19 mm and a rated power consumption of 3 W, the module is intended for integration into air purifiers, portable sanitizers, medical and wellness devices, and other equipment where a small high voltage source is required. Input options cover DC 5 V and DC 12 V, while the output voltage is set in the range of 5 kV to 9 kV according to the specific model.

How the Module Operates

The module converts a low DC input voltage into a high DC output voltage through a step-up transformer and rectifier circuit. A built-in oscillator drives the primary side of the transformer, and the output is rectified to produce a stable high voltage. The circuit is designed to limit output current to a safe level, which is important for applications where the high voltage is exposed to air or used near human contact.

For negative ion applications, the module is configured to produce a negative output polarity. For electrostatic precipitation, the same high voltage is applied to the discharge electrode and collector plate. In plasma applications, the module can drive a small dielectric barrier discharge cell.

Integration Considerations

Compact Size

The 51 × 32 × 19 mm footprint allows installation inside portable air purifiers, desktop sanitizers, car air fresheners, and handheld devices. Mounting holes or double-sided adhesive pads can be added according to the customer's design.

Input and Output Wiring

Input connections are available as pin headers or soldered leads. The high voltage output is provided through a silicone insulated wire to prevent arc-over and withstand continuous flexing. The length of the high voltage lead can be specified.

Safety and Insulation

The module is encapsulated in a flame-retardant housing that protects the internal circuit from dust and moisture. The high voltage output is isolated from the low voltage input. The output current is inherently limited, reducing the risk of electric shock under normal operation. However, the module should always be enclosed inside a finished product with appropriate insulation around the high voltage terminal.

EMC and Noise

The switching frequency is selected to minimize audible noise and electromagnetic interference. If required, an external RC filter or shielded cable can be recommended for sensitive applications.

Typical Applications

  • Air purifiers: Powers electrostatic precipitator plates or negative ion generators in residential and portable units.
  • Negative ion devices: Used in desktop ionizers, car air fresheners, and personal wellness products.
  • Plasma modules: Drives small plasma generators for odor removal and surface disinfection.
  • Medical and healthcare: Suitable for low-power disinfection chambers, dental suction systems, and laboratory air cleaning modules.
  • HVAC accessories: Installed inside fan coil units or duct-mounted ionizers for continuous air treatment.

Customization Options

  • Output voltage: Fixed at 5 kV, 6 kV, 7 kV, 8 kV, or 9 kV according to model. Custom values can be evaluated.
  • Input voltage: DC 5 V or DC 12 V standard. Other voltages may be available for volume orders.
  • Polarity: Negative or positive output can be selected. Negative output is common for air purification applications.
  • Lead length and connector type: High voltage lead length and termination can be customized.
  • Housing and mounting: The module can be provided without housing for direct PCB integration or with mounting flanges.

Reliability and Testing

Each module is tested for output voltage, input current, and insulation integrity before shipment. Sample tests include continuous operation at full load for 48 hours and thermal cycling between -10°C and +60°C. For medical or high-volume applications, additional test reports can be provided.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can the output voltage be adjusted during operation?

No. The output voltage is fixed at the factory according to the model selected. If a variable output is needed, a different module or an external control circuit would be required. We can discuss custom solutions for volume projects.

How do I know which output voltage to choose?

The required output voltage depends on the electrode spacing and the target application. For negative ion generators, 5 kV to 7 kV is common. For electrostatic precipitators with wider plate gaps, 8 kV to 9 kV may be needed. Our technical team can assist based on your electrode configuration.

Does this module produce ozone?

The module itself does not produce ozone directly. Ozone may be generated when the high voltage is applied to a sharp electrode in air, especially at higher voltages. If ozone control is a concern, the output voltage can be kept below 6 kV, or a different electrode design can be used.

Is the module safe for use in household appliances?

The module is designed with limited output current and encapsulated insulation. When installed inside a properly grounded appliance, it meets the low voltage safety requirements for household use. However, the high voltage output wiring must be enclosed and not accessible to users.

What is the typical service life of the module?

Under normal operating conditions and within the specified temperature range, the module has an expected service life of more than 20,000 hours. The main failure factors are overvoltage input and continuous operation at maximum temperature. Proper thermal management in the host device improves longevity.

Can I order a sample for evaluation?

Yes. Sample orders are available for prototyping and testing. Provide the desired input voltage, output voltage, polarity, and lead length when placing the order.
